I was reading a headline today from a Google Blogspot that discussed how to prepare for and recover from a data disaster. It was mostly trying to convince people to use GMail and Google Docs to circumvent disaster. I am writing to offer an alternative.
Some people do not like to put all of their trust in having their data, even their lives stored on Google’s servers. That is where Dropbox comes in to play. Dropbox is an internet service and there are three android apps that work with DropBox: Moozone (DropBox support must be setup at moozone.com), Dropbox and Droidbox (I use DroidBox). It allows you to have a network storage center that is accessible from any enabled computer, even your android phone.
You install DropBox on your PC and it creates a folder that automatically synced both online and any other computer or android phone that has dropbox installed. It will install a folder like the one below (except for the android folder, that one is mine). This same folder is available on all enable devices. If I add a file to the dropbox folder on you work PC, it is immediately available on my home PC, Nexus One and G1.

It is very simple to set this up on your computer. And even easier to set it up on your android phone. Just download DropBox from the android market. Once you sign in with the your email address and password you have immediate access to this data. As can be seen below

Or alternatively, you can visit the website www.DropBox.com and access the files there. As a matter of fact, not only are the files there but also all revisions of them. Let’s say that you are working on an article for a blog and after you have made several revisions you decide to go back to an earlier version. If you save it to the dropbox folder, DropBox retains all revisions of this so that you can access it easily.

You get 2 GB of storage space free and another 250 MB free if you refer someone to Dropbox.

I can use up the 2.25 GB pretty quickly and the cost of a 50GB storage is 9.99/mo or 99.00/yr. A 100 GB will cost you twice as much.
Conclusion
This is a really good service for those who don’t want Google to have access to all their electronic data and want to be able to access their data anywhere. To test this, I placed a 110 MB MP3 file from work and uploaded it to my Nexus with no problems. I have been using this application for a couple of weeks and have had no issues at all.
Rating: 8.5/10 Due to low Storage Space.

Android Enthusiast! I am an engineer that loves toys like this and Absolutely love the Android OS. I love to show off my G1 and Nexus One to people so that they can see what a real smartphone looks like.
I keep my G1 at my side just in case a good ROM or App comes up that I want to test, and share the results.
